TARGETING LEED® SILVER CERTIFICATION
DID YOU KNOW?
The Canada Games Centre is a major facility designed to meet the needs of high performance sport and be the showcase venue for the 2011 Canada Winter Games. The facility will serve residents of HRM as a central location for sport, recreational, cultural, and nature appreciation activities. The Canada Games Centre is an environmentally sustainable building, targeting LEED® Silver design standards. Take a peek at some of the “green” environmental design highlights.
WHAT IS LEED®?
LEED® – which stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design – is like an environmental report card for buildings. LEED® is a point-system that encourages “green” building practices by examining:
- sustainable site development
- water efficiency
- energy efficiency
- materials selection
- indoor environmental quality, and
- innovative design
To become certified, a building is rated on a scale of 70 points. Depending on its score, the building is awarded one of four certification levels (certified, silver, gold or platinum). The higher the score, the less of an impact the building has on the environment!
