The Urban Design Awards program provides an opportunity for the Municipality to acknowledge and promote the contributions that property and business owners, architects, landscape architects, artists and designers make toward the continued improvement of the urban core.
Good design and its effective implementation defines the character and identity of the Capital District, enriches the enjoyment of the urban environment and helps to strengthen the overall economy of the Halifax Regional Municipality. HRM believes this awards program provides a foundation for new ideas and a forum for raising public debate and discussion around excellence in design, which is seen as fundamental to the future vision for the region.
With the successful completion of year three of the Urban Design Awards, the program has attained a level of recognition such that it is ready to switch to a biennial schedule. Henceforth, the awards program will be held every two years on even-numbered years.
