DON’T STAY HOME WITHOUT ONE!
Change Your Smoke Alarm Batteries!
Replace old batteries with fresh, high quality batteries to keep your smoke alarm ready to protect you.
Check Your Smoke Alarms!
After inserting fresh batteries in your smoke alarm, make sure the alarm is working by activating the safety test button. We recommend that you test all of your smoke alarms monthly.
Clean Your Smoke Alarms!
To help keep your smoke alarm in good working condition, we recommend that you gently vacuum once a month to remove dust and cobwebs.
Replace Your Old Smoke Alarms!
Smoke Alarms need to be replaced every
6-10 years (see your manufacturer's instructions).
We Also Suggest ....
- Plan and practice your home fire escape plan
- Install fire extinguishers
- Change your flashlight batteries

WORKING SMOKE ALARMS SAVE LIVES
DON’T STAY HOME WITHOUT ONE!
- Working smoke alarms can cut the chance of dying in a home fire nearly in half by providing the extra time critical for safe escape.
- Most home fires occur at night when people are sleeping.
- Most fire fatalities are the result of smoke inhalation because lethal amounts of smoke build long before the flames spread.
- Working smoke alarms will alert residents while there is still time to get out alive.

- You must have at least one working smoke alarm outside each sleeping area.
- If you have electronically operated smoke alarms, you should have a “battery backup” smoke alarm.

- To help residents, we have an "Alarmed and Ready" Program that supplies smoke alarms to residents who do not have the ways and means to have at least one working smoke alarm outside each sleeping area.
- Contact 490-5590 for information on this program. Or e-mail us

- Lithium battery smoke alarms are a new technology that has become available. Because lithium batteries last approximately the length of the smoke alarm (10 years), owners do not have to remember to change batteries regularly.
- However, all alarms should still be tested on a regular basis, monthly if possible.
