HRM operates under an integrated policing model. The municipality has a fully employed police service (Halifax Regional Police) which polices the urban core and a contracted police service (Halifax District RCMP) which polices the rest of the community.
Halifax Regional Police is responsible for policing:
- Halifax
- Dartmouth
- Bedford and all communities extending from Bedford to the Sambro Loop
