Community Partnerships

Community based partnerships have been in place for a number of years to assist with the upkeep and maintenance of municipally owned properties. The use of community based non-profit groups began shortly after amalgamation as the newly formed municipality was unable to maintain the expected level of service in the rural areas. These groups have become a success story in alternative service delivery.

Currently, there are 16 community based partnerships related to the maintenance of playgrounds, green spaces, athletic fields and sports courts. These partnerships are responsible for 79 parcels encompassing 458,810 square meters land. This number continues to rise due to the success of this model.

It is important that these relationships continue to flourish as they provide significant benefit to the partners, the community, and HRM.
