Asphalt Recycler

With the purchase of an asphalt recycler, Municipal Operations crews have been using recycled asphalt since November 2011.
Asphalt from damaged roads, broken asphalt curb, and leftover asphalt that has gone cold are recycled to repair potholes and curbs, temporarily patch damaged sidewalk slabs and is used in completing other small scale jobs. Recycled asphalt provides cost savings by reducing the volume of new asphalt to be purchased.
During part of the winter, the private asphalt plants shut down for maintenance and there is limited opportunity to obtain hot asphalt. When it is available, the costs are significantly higher than during the summer. The use of hot recycled asphalt in lieu of cold patch allows for a longer lasting repair.
