Police Officer of the Year
Constable Scott MacDonald
Cst. MacDonald is the provincial coordinator for the Drug Recognition Expert (DRE) Program. As such, he coordinates all police officers trained in DRE across the province. Halifax Regional Police is one of the leading agencies in DRE in Canada due to Scott's hard work and dedication to the program.
Detective Frank Hoskins Memorial Award
- Investigator of the Year -
Detective Constable Steven Langille
Det/Cst. Langille is recognized by his peers and supervisors as extremely knowledgeable about the criminal element and experienced in handling drug investigations. In 2008, the busiest year in history for drug searches, he authored 25% of all warrants written by the Drug Unit. He is lauded for his role as the lead investigator in Operation Imperative.
Chief’s Meritorious Service Award
Staff Sergeant Brenda Zima (Sworn Member)
S/Sgt. Zima has researched and prepared reports and subsequently represented HRP publically on many major issues. She recently volunteered her time to represent HRP in the Salvation Army Stocking Stuffer Challenge, through which she raised over $5000 for this worthy cause.
Holly McCann (Civilian Employee)
As the ACIIS Liaison, Holly has helped HRP become a leading municipal contributor to this intelligence-based database. She is a leader in her field, with her best practices becoming known and adopted across Canada.
Community Contribution Award
Constable Don Jenkins (Sworn Member)
Cst. Jenkins volunteers at almost every notable police-community event, bringing a special energy and enthusiasm to each occasion. He is also our champion for the Law Enforcement Torch Run in support of the Special Olympics.
Nicole Salsman (Civilian Employee)
Nicole is extremely active in the community, volunteering with Feed Nova Scotia, Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life and Halifax Regional Police Victim Services.
Jennifer Webber (HRP Volunteer)
Jennifer has been an active member of Victim Services since 2005, and is the President of the Victim Services Volunteer Association. She also volunteers with the Elizabeth Fry Society and the HRM Crime Prevention Association.
Tim Hortons (Corporate/Community Partner)
Tim Hortons has been a valued corporate/community partner with HRP for over a decade, providing their camp facilities in Tatamagouche for our annual Cops 'n Kids Camp for the last five years.
Civilian of the Year
Bruce Pellerine
Bruce goes above and beyond on a daily basis to ensure the police fleet is fully operational, doing everything from equipping our cars to managing the budget and procurement process. He takes great pride in providing police officers with a top notch fleet.
