March 18, 2010

GO #10-38373 - Traffic Stop/Drugs - At approximately 10:30 p.m., in the area of Yorkshire Avenue in Dartmouth, a traffic stop was conducted. The driver was charged for multiple Motor Vehicle Act violations and the vehicle was seized. Upon search of the vehicle, police located a quantity of marijuana and the occupants were charged with drug related offences.




March 17, 2010

GO #10-37687 Robbery - At approximately 8 p.m., two males walking in the 5700 block of Spring Garden Road near the Public Gardens became involved in an altercation with four other males. The two victims were punched, kicked, then sprayed with an aerosol substance, possibly pepper spray. The suspects took an Ipod from one of the victims and left the area in a dark colored mini van. The matter remains under investigation.


GO #10-37779 - Robbery - At approximately 10 p.m., a man walking in the area of Robert Burns and Brule Streets in Dartmouth was approached by a male who punched him in the face and took a small amount of cash. The suspect then fled on foot. The matter remains under investigation.




March 16, 2010

GO #10-37176 - Weapons Call - At 8:22 p.m., police responded to a report of gun shots fired in the area of Nova Court in Dartmouth. Upon arrival, officers located bullet casings on the roadway and several impacts from bullets were found in four residences on Nova Court, Canso Lane, Demetreous Lane and Green Road. No one was injured as a result of the incident. The suspects, who were described as two black males in their 20's, fled the area in a silver SUV style vehicle driven by a woman. A short time later, a similar vehicle was located in the Cole Harbour area by HRP’s Quick Response Unit, resulting in the arrest of the female driver and seizure of the vehicle. A 25-year-old woman is being held for Court later today to face charges of accessory after the fact to attempted murder, discharging a firearm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle and two counts of breaching a conditional sentence. The matter remains under investigation by the HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigative Section.


GO 10-37229/- Robbery - At 10:23 p.m., a man reported that while walking in the 2200 block of Gottingen Street, Halifax, three males punched him in the face and attempted to take his money. The suspects were described as a black male, 15-16 years-old, and a white male wearing a dark track suit. No description was available for the third male.


Go #10-37236 - Assault/Robbery At 10:43 p.m., a man walking in the 2300 block of Brunswick Street, Halifax, was approached by four males. One punched the victim in the face, resulting in minor injuries. The suspects attempted to steal the victim's guitar but discarded it a short distance away. The suspect were described as being 16-17-years-old and wearing hoodies. Two of the suspects were black, the other two white. One of the white males was wearing a neoprene ski mask. It is not known if this robbery is related to the earlier robbery (GO 10-37229). The matter remains under investigation.


GO #10-37244 - Robbery - At 11:10 p.m. a patrol officer spied a suspicious male running through a parking lot on Lacewood Drive in Halifax. Almost immediately a 911 call came in reporting a robbery at the nearby Needs convenience store. The 15-year-old male was arrested quickly by responding patrol officers and was held for Court to face charges of robbery, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose and wearing a disguise.




March 15, 2010

GO# 10-36360 - Robbery - At 3:05 a.m., a man armed with a weapon entered the Prince George Hotel, 1725 Market Street, Halifax, and demanded money from the clerk. The suspect fled the area after receiving an undisclosed amount of cash. No one was injured during the incident. Responding officers searched the area but weren't able to located the suspect. The suspect was described as being either of middle eastern descent or a light skinned black male, with a scarf over his face and wearing a hooded jacked and jeans. The matter remains under investigation.


GO #10-36674 -Injury Motor Vehicle Accident/Pedestrian - At 8:54 p.m., a 37-year-old man was struck by a vehicle while crossing the street at the corner of Cogswell and North Park Streets in Halifax. He was transported to hospital with minor injuries. The 49-year-old male driver was issued a Summary Offence ticket for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.


GO #10-36671 Robbery - At 8:47 p.m., a 15-year-old male walking in the 100 block of Wyse Road in Dartmouth was approached by three men who demanded he empty his pockets. One of the suspects put the victim in a headlock, took some personal belongings and then punched him in the face. The victim received minor injuries. Nearby, patrol officers arrested two suspects without incident. The third suspect was also arrested and received minor injuries as a result of a brief foot pursuit. The three men are being held in custody and will appear in Dartmouth Provincial Court later today. Two of the men, ages 20 and 21-years-old, face charges of robbery, uttering threats and assault. The third man, 21-years-old, has an outstanding arrest warrant and faces charges of robbery, resisting arrest and breaching a recognizance.




March 14, 2010

GO #10-35819 - Disturbance - At 4:42 p.m., police investigating a theft at an address in the 1700 block of Brunswick Street, Halifax, observed multiple people involved in a fighting nearby. A verbal command was given to clear the area which was ignored. Pepper spray was deployed, causing the participants to disperse. Some were treated at the scene by Emergency Health Services for minor injuries. At this time, no charges are expected.




March 13, 2010

GO #10-35313 - Suspicious Fire (Arson) - At 6:30 a.m., police assisted HRM Fire Services with a fire at a building on Lakecrest Drive in Dartmouth. A storage door and contents of a storage unit located at the rear of the building suffered damage. The cause of the fire has yet to be determined but it is believed to be suspicious at this time. The matter is being followed up by the HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigative Section in cooperation with HRM Fire Services.


GO #10-35699 - Impaired Driver - At 10:45 p.m., a citizen called police to advise he was following an impaired driver in the south end of Halifax. A description of the vehicle and the direction it was going was provided. The impaired driver was located and stopped shortly thereafter. The 69-year-old man was taken into custody and will appear in court on a future date to face charges of impaired driving and failing the breathalyzer.




March 12, 2010

GO #10-35080 - Mischief - At 8:00 p.m., police responded a mischief call at 1259 South Park Street in Halifax. A witness reported observing three males in the graveyard. The males fled upon police arrival and were apprehended a short distance away. Officers noted damage to some headstones and grave markers. The three males, two adults and one youth, are facing charges of mischief in relation to religious objects. They were released to appear in court at a later date.

March 10, 2010

GO #10-33716 -Disturbance - Approximately 11:30 a.m., HRP and RCMP responded to a disturbance at the Dartmouth Provincial Court House, 277 Pleasant Street. Two groups that were at the court house for the sentencing of a male from an incident in Preston clashed outside the courtroom. Several units were dispatched to assist. The group was eventually dispersed and the matter is being investigated by the General Investigation Section.


GO #10-33924 - Youth Complaint - At 6:50 p.m., police responded to Frog Pond on Purcells Cove Road in Halifax. A caller indicated three children were playing on the ice and it seemed to be breaking up around them. Three youth were located sitting on a rock approximately ten feet from the shore line. Prior to police arrival, one boy had fallen into the water waist deep. All were safely removed from the water and two were transported to the IWK Hospital as a precaution.




March 9, 2010

GO# 10-33022 - Drugs - At approximately
2:14 a.m., a traffic stop was conducted at the corner of Olivet Street and Mumford Road in Halifax on a vehicle with a loud exhaust. The officer noted a strong odour of marijuana. The driver was arrested, and a large amount of marijuana, pills and drug paraphernalia were seized. A Halifax man will appear in Halifax Provincial Court later today to face charges of possession for the purpose of trafficking drugs and two counts of breaching a recognizance.


GO #10-33190 Indecent Act - Police responded to an indecent act complaint which occurred at 8:50 a.m. on Sackville Street near the Halifax Public Gardens. A male suspect was walking on Sackville Street with his pants open and his genitals exposed. The suspect was described as a white male, mid to late 20s, 5'2" to 5'5" tall, average build, and wearing a black toque, jean jacket, skinny jeans and black high top sneakers.


Go #10-33546 - Break and Enter - At approximately 11:57 p.m., a resident of an apartment on Wellington Street in Halifax reported that two males were attempting to break into the storage units in the building's underground parking. The suspects realized they were being watched by the caller and left. Responding officers observed a man departing the area, who fled when he saw police. After a foot chase, the man was apprehended near the Saint Mary's football field. The 21-year-old Halifax man will appear in court later today to face break and enter charges.




March 8, 2010

GO# 10-32960 Impaired Driver - At approximately 8 p.m., officers initiated a traffic stop near Bell Road in Halifax after receiving a report of an impaired driver from a concerned a motorist. The driver was arrested without incident and no injuries resulted. A Halifax man is being held in custody and will appear in Halifax Provincial Court later today to face charges of impaired driving, refusing the Breathalyzer, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and failing to stop for police.

Go #10-3146 - Robbery - At approximately 2:35 a.m., police responded to a robbery call at Pizza Pro, 252 Waverley Road in Dartmouth. Two suspects entered the rear of the business and approached the male clerk. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at the clerk and demanded cash. The delivery driver arrived and the two suspects fled without any cash. No one was injured during the incident. The suspects were described as wearing black hoodies pulled over their heads. The matter is being investigated by the General Investigative Section.

March 3, 2010

GO# 10-30373 - Robbery - At approximately 11:55 p.m., police responded to a robbery at the Petro Canada Gas Station, 105 Main Street, Dartmouth. Two men entered the store. One man proceeded to the counter and demanded cash and cigarettes, while the other man stayed by the door as a lookout. The clerk complied with the demand and the suspects fled the store on foot. One suspect is described as a white man, 40-45-years-old, 5'9" tall, 160 lbs, average build, unshaven, wearing a black hooded jacket with a yellow liner and light color pants. He was carrying a red/black duffle bag. The second suspect was 30-35-years-old, 6' tall, 170 lbs, slender build, and wearing all black clothing.




March 2, 2010

Go #10-29678 - Break and Enter - Approximately 4:00 p.m., police received a call from the occupant of an apartment on Boland Road in Dartmouth, reporting that four males entered his apartment and stole a number of items and a quantity of cash. The victim was not injured during the incident. The suspects were described as black males, all wearing black hoodies and baggie jeans. Three of the four suspects had bandanas over their faces. At this time, it does not appear to be a random act. The matter remains under investigation by the HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigative Section.


GO #10-29707 - Fire - At approxmately 5 p.m., police along with HRM Fire Services responded to a fire in the 100 block of Pinecrest Drive in Dartmouth, where one person died. At this time the fire has not been deemed suspicious. The matter remains under investigation.


GO #10-29765 - Robbery - At approximately 7:15 p.m., a robbery occurred at the Lawtons on Duffus Street in Halifax. One male entered the drug store and demanded drugs from the store employee. The male fled the store and the security guard pursued the suspect. The suspect produced a knife and fled. No one was injured during the incident. The suspect is described as a white male, wearing a white hoodie and sunglasses. This matter is being investigated by the HRP/RCMP Integrated General Investigative Section.




March 1, 2010

Gold Medal Crowd - Parts of Spring Garden Road in Halifax were closed by police to vehicular traffic for a short time on Sunday evening. Approximately 150-200 persons celebrated Canada’s Olympic gold metal victory. Police patrol members monitored the sitution.


GO# 10-29036 - Break and Enter - Between the hours of 7:15 a.m. and 8 a.m., a suspect entered a residence in the 3100 block of Needham Street in Halifax through an unlocked back door and stole various articles from the kitchen area. At 12 p.m., police responded to a fraud in progress at a business in the 3600 block of Joseph Howe Drive in Halifax. A man using a credit card stolen from the residence was arrested and held for court.


GO# 10-29065 - Break and Enter - At approximately 12 p.m., police responded to a break and enter in progress at a residence on Jamieson Street in Dartmouth. One male was arrested on site and the second male fled on foot. The second male was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. All items were recovered from the break. The two males will appear in court tomorrow morning to face numerous charges.
