Halifax North Common - Construction Information
Construction for the new electrical building has finished.
Canada Games Oval
New construction work will commence in late August/early September 2010, in the southeast corner (Cogswell and North Park) to ready the area for the installation of the temporary long track speed skating oval. The Canada Games organizing committee, in cooperation with HRM, will use the North Common as the venue for long track speed skating in 2011. Construction will continue through the fall with the plan to open the completed facility to the public in December 2010.
The effected playing fields will be reinstated over the summer of 2011 and are scheduled to be back, new and improved, ready for use in the fall of 2011.

Conceptual Plan
Halifax Regional Council approved the Halifax North Common conceptual plan on March 30, 2010. The proposed improvements to the North Common will take place over several years, beginning in spring 2010 with the construction of an electrical facility. This building will be used to supply power to the Canada Games Long Track Speed Skating Oval (winter 2010/11) and to other special events. Regional Council has approved the conditions around which major concerts will be held on the North Common, as per the following Council Report:
