Regional Council approved recommendations 1 - 4 of the Administrative Standing Committee regarding appointments to the HRM Stadium Steering Committee as outlined in the Private and Confidential staff report dated February 28, 2011.

These recommendations allowed for:

  • The increase of citizen appointments to six (6) from five (5) in recognition of the level of interest in these positions.  The Clerk’s office received over 80 submissions.
  • The inclusion on the Steering Committee of a representative from the Provincial Department of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism.

These six volunteers have joined other Steering Committee members who represent Regional Council, sport, recreation and business.

The Steering Committee’s primary role is:

  • Provide advice and direction to a staff technical team;
  • Develop and make recommendations to Regional Council on a Stadium business plan, operational plan, site selection, ownership model, facility design and construction methodology relative to achieving the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup minimum standards; and
  • Serve as the public face of the project from a communications perspective in community, media, etc.

For more information view the Steering Committee Terms of Reference

The Committee will make recommendations to HRM Regional Council based on its findings made through the planning process.

These are preliminary steps in positioning HRM to be a host city for the 2015 Women’s World Cup of women’s soccer.
