Water to Fall River

Public meetings and discussions have shown that the majority of those attending the meetings want central water. As a result of the overwhelming popularity of this subject, the Fall River Community Liaison Group (CLG) has decided that a public forum on this subject should not required.

What people want to know is: When is it coming and what will it cost?

The CLG is required to submit a "Vision" and an "Action Plan" to HRM Council this summer. Part of this initiative will include the subject of water to Fall River.

It is intended to recommend that:

Fall River be included within the water district boundary;

A study be done to determine the extent, cost and feasibility of adding Fall River to HRM water service. (Bearing in mind that any cost will be a frontage cost to property owners and that water main to residence lateral supply lines will be extra.);

A study be done to determine if a central water supply in Fall River will have a negative impact on residential septic systems. If it does, will there be any negative impact on area waterways (ie, will an increased use of water result in a higher rate of septic system failures?);

A study be done to determine the extent, cost and feasibility of installing a Fall River central sewer system including the minimum amount of sewer system required to ensure there will be no negative impact of failing septic systems, if it has been determined if there will be any, on the area waterways;

That these studies be completed within one year of the proposal being presented to Council; and

That the study results be published within two years of the proposal being presented to Council
