Newcomer On The Move
WORKSHOP INVITATION
February 7th 2012, Halifax Regional Municipality, Nova Scotia
What: On the Move is CAAWS’ national initiative to increase opportunities for inactive girls and young women to participate in sport and physical activity. CAAWS’ Newcomer On the Move project, with support from Citizenship and Immigration Canada, is designed to address disparities in the availability and utilization of physical activity and sport opportunities for newcomer girls and young women (those living in Canada five years or less).
CAAWS is excited to partner with Active Halifax Communities and The YMCA of Greater Halifax/Dartmouth Immigrant Services to support a Newcomer On the Move program in the Halifax Regional Municipality.

ACTIVE Halifax Communities exists for the purpose of increasing the number of physically active children, youth and families in the Halifax Regional Municipality. Through collaborative partnerships, we strive to build awareness, participation, and to build community capacity for active living.
Specifically, we aim to increase the physical activity levels of those children, youth and families who are a part of under served communities. These populations include girls and women, persons with a disability, newcomers and immigrants, persons living in poverty and Aboriginal People.
ACTIVE Halifax Communities was created in partnership with Capital Health, the Halifax Regional Municipality, The Department of Health and Wellness and the Halifax Regional School Board.
