The HRM Archives operates according to its mandate as approved by Halifax Regional Council in Administrative Order 31 Respecting Corporate Records and Information Management.

Each of the archival functions (identifying, acquiring, preserving and promoting access to archival records) is governed by the following policies:

There are additional policies and procedures that govern internal processes such as arrangement and description, reformatting, retrieval, photocopying.
