MEC School Bike Day
June 2nd, 2010

Dear Principals and Teachers,                                                  

HRM Bike Week (May 28th until June 6th) is an exciting, community driven event that encourages people of all ages and abilities to be more active and get out and see their communities in an enjoyable fashion - cycling!  Last year's event attracted more than 2000 residents to participate in over 30 events held throughout HRM. 

School Bike Day will take place on
Wednesday June 2nd, 2010

Why should you register your school and take part in MEC School Bike Day?

• Your school could win a Bicycle Rack, by logging the most participation in this event! (Based on a percentage of the total student population in your School)
  
• Each student who rides to school will also get a chance to win one of 20, $25 gift certificates from Mountain Equipment Co-op!
  
• It is a fun, active and healthy way for students to travel to school.

All schools in HRM are invited to promote cycling as a form of active transportation by holding a school wide event.

Options for events that can be held are:

• Encourage students to Bike to School
• Offer a Bike Rodeo at your school
• Invite guest speakers or demonstrations of Bicycle Safety

• Organize a school bike ride

How to register your school?

• Complete Registration form, and email or fax to
  Gerard Bray, Sport Animator,
  by May 22nd 2010!
  You will then be sent a Registration Package,
  Outlining How School Bike Day Will Work!
