Non Profit Tax Exemption Logo Tax Exemption for Non-Profit Organizations Review

Halifax Regional Municipality is in the process of reviewing its Tax Exemption for Non-Profit Organizations Program. As directed by the Regional Council, the goal of the review is to develop policy and options for potential program change.

The review process will consists of information gathering from all Non-Profit Organizations currently on By-Law T200.

As part of the review process, we need to gain a better understanding of our current client base.  We will be gathering information about the properties and programs being offered by each organization currently on By-Law T200.  The information collected will be used to:

  • develop a directory of organizations to improve public information on the range of organizations receiving tax exemption from HRM
  • gather feedback on the current tax exemption program
  • develop and test new policies and eligibility criteria

This review will start in 2010 with those properties assessed at the Residential Rate and then proceed to Commercial and Resource properties in 2011.
