About this Calendar
HRM’s Online Calendar provides a quick and easy way to find information about upcoming meetings and events. Links to Community Events, Youth Events and HRM-wide Festival and Events also make it a one-stop shop for everything exciting happening throughout HRM.
The Online Calendar is part of HRM’s Community Engagement Strategy and illustrates one more way the Municipality is working to give residents the tools and resources they need to get involved in community life and better their neighbourhoods.
It will complement, but not replace, other traditional methods HRM uses to inform the public about upcoming events.
There are four calendars which are accessible by clicking on the icons:
1. Municipal Calendar
Never miss out on an opportunity to be part of government decision-making or to participate in civic affairs again!
This calendar includes only municipally-run and/or sponsored events and meetings, including Regional and Community Council meetings. It also includes important municipal dates such as alternate garbage collection days.
2. Community Calendar
Find out about upcoming neighbourhood and community events, neighbourhood yard sales and much more using our online Community Calendar.
This calendar supports our Good Neighbours, Great Neighbourhoods Initiative. If you would like to have your neighbourhood or community event on this calendar, let us know by emailing us at myhrm@halifax.ca Please Note: Your event must be open to the public and non-commercial.
Learn more about the Good Neighbours, Great Neighbourhoods initiative at www.myhrm.ca or visit us on Facebook.
3. Youth Calendar
This calendar provides information on HRM-wide events, programs and activities for youth ages 13-19. A variety of youth organizations post to this calendar in addition to HRM.
You can find more things for youth at www.hrmyouth.ca
4. Festivals and Events Calendar
To give you the full picture of all festivals and events happening throughout our great region, we've included a link to this calendar. Some events are sponsored by HRM but the majority are run by other event planners and organizations.
The festival and events calendar will open in a new window because it is not in Google calendar format.

Glossary of Public Engagement Terms
Public Hearing
A Public Hearing is a process that provides an opportunity for interested citizens to comment on certain planning applications prior to Council making a decision on the proposal. A Public Hearing must be held for the following types of applications:
- Any proposed amendment to a municipal planning strategy, land use by-law or subdivision by-law; and/or
- Any proposed development agreement or rezoning
A Public Hearing is held during a Council meeting and must occur prior to Council making a decision on the planning application. During the Public Hearing, citizens have an opportunity to speak for or against the proposed planning application. Anyone wishing to speak during a Public Hearing must speak only to the proposed application, direct their comments through the Chair (either the Mayor or the Chair of a Community Council) and must respect the opinions of others. Once the Public Hearing component of the meeting has concluded, Council may decide to approve, deny, or defer its decision on the application until a later date.
Public Information Meeting
A public information meeting is a meeting on a zoning or heritage matter that will require the approval of Council after a public hearing. Examples are amendments to Municipal Planning Strategies and Land Use By-laws, applications to demolish heritage properties, and development agreement proposals.
No decisions are made at public information meetings. The meeting takes place shortly after a development proposal is submitted to HRM and its main purpose is to gain public feedback. At the meeting, the public receives an overview of a proposal and is encouraged to make comments and ask questions, which are recorded as formal minutes.
Public Meeting
A public meeting is any meeting which the public may attend.
