Community Resources

Information and resources for residents & newcomers to better their neighbourhoods - from neighbourhood cleanups to community gardens. We support individuals, volunteers & organizations through services & grants programs. Our libraries also offer resident services.

Volunteer Services

Connects you with other volunteers, non-profits and partners and resources and funding opportunities. Provide training including free workshops and Step Up to Leadership Program; hosts annual Volunteer Conference and custom workshops.

Newcomers Guides

Includes French and Arabic Guides. An introduction to life in Halifax, whether you are a new resident or if you are considering moving to HRM from another part of the country or world.

Neighbourhood Programs

Apply for access to HRM-owned land for a neighbourhood sign or community garden or to host a street painting project in your neighbourhood street intersection.

Community Grants

The Municipality provides tax assistance and grants to registered non-profit organizations and charities throughout the region. Through the Community Grants Program, HRM Facility Partnership Fund, Event Grants, Tax Exemption for Non-Profit Organizations Program and the Residential Property Tax Exemption Program.

Library

Halifax Public Libraries comprises 14 branch libraries, a website, Borrow by Mail, and Home Delivery services. Offers programs for adults, teens, and children, including author readings, live performances, homework help, and puppet shows.
