You can help reduce graffiti in your community by following the proven "3 R Method": record, remove and report graffiti vandalism.
1. Record It!
Record the date, time and location of the graffiti. Take a picture.
The Halifax Regional Police are compiling a comprehensive data base to track graffiti in order to:
- more accurately assess the impact and prevalence of graffiti
- to serve as photographic evidence in support of the prosecution of graffiti vandals
- to further develop appropriate responses and programs
2. Remove It!
Prompt and persistent removal is the most effective way to prevent graffiti.
While this may be difficult,
studies show that removal within 24 to 48 hours results in a nearly zero rate of reoccurrence.
3. Report It!
