People come to Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) for many different reasons. They come to join friends and family members from a wide range of cultures.

They come to further their education at one of our many post-secondary schools.

They come for exciting employment opportunities, especially in the growing research and development, technology and import/export fields.

Most people come because HRM offers all the attractions - like restaurants, shopping, museums and theatre - of a large city with the comfortable family-oriented lifestyle of a small town.

It truly is a great place to live, work, learn and play.

We are also proud of our reputation as a welcoming community. However, I know that moving to any new place can bring many challenges, especially if you speak a different language or come from a different part of the world. At HRM, we are working hard to help make that transition easier. Our website is full of information that can help you adjust to life in our municipality.
