The SDI is a computer assigned number which is based on the severity and percent density of each type of surface problem on the street. Currently there are 9 types of problems which are looked at when a street is evaluated. Each type of surface problem has its relative importance to one another which the computer combines to come up with the overall SDI. (Examples below)
