Barry Dalrymple was elected to Halifax Regional Council in October 2008 representing District 2 - Waverley/Fall River/Beaver Bank. Barry was born and raised in Fall River and grew up in Windsor Junction. Upon returning to Nova Scotia 12 years ago, he now lives in Wellington.

Barry served as a member of the RCMP for 32 years, 21 of which were spent in Manitoba. When he returned to Nova Scotia, he was stationed in Enfield for five years and later for six years in Windsor, N.S. before retiring in 2006. During his career with the RCMP, Councillor Dalrymple was a Detachment Commander, Operational NCO and he served five years on the Major Crime Unit.


An avid volunteer all his life, Barry is the Secretary and Treasurer of the Fall River/ Riverlake Lions Club and the LWF Fire/Community Hall Board. He is the Executive Director, Treasurer, and Umpire Assigner of the LWF Baseball Association, and he is Treasurer of the Waverley Sports Park Board and Treasurer of the Lions Christmas Express. In between, Councillor Dalrymple organizes and runs the pre-teen dances at the LWF Hall.

Councillor Dalrymple's past volunteer history includes Past President of Baseball Nova Scotia; Past Treasurer of Baseball Nova Scotia & Past Board member of Baseball Canada. He has coached and managed baseball and hockey teams for close to 30 years in both Manitoba and Nova Scotia including coaching hockey with Bedford Minor Hockey teams for eight years. He has also coached and officiated in both soccer and basketball and is an avid supporter of all sports and recreational activities.

Coucillor Dalrymple has picked up many awards over his years as a volunteer. In 2008, he was named as Volunteer of the Year for District 2 for his work in baseball, Lions Club, Christmas Express and LWF Community Hall. In 2006, he was named Volunteer of the Year nationally for Baseball Canada, and he was also voted the 2005 Volunteer of the Year for Baseball Nova Scotia.
