Update on Local Community Transit Service

HRM Council finally had a long debate during its Committee of the Whole today, Jan. 11/11 on the long deferred report of Community Transit (dated Oct. 28/10 and then deferred and delayed to Nov. 9/10, Nov. 30/10, Dec. 7/10 and Jan. 11/11).

Council has asked staff to come back with a final analysis for a preferred service option for each of the three community transit routes Sambro, Beaverbank, and Preston / Porters Lake.

In that Oct. 28/10 report there were six options for consideration for the Preston / Porters Lake service. To PDF Acrobat Tips

I have asked staff for a modified Option 6 with the addition of including the Seaforth Back Road loop, and re-routing the service through Little Salmon River, Ross Road, and Cole Harbour Road to the Portland Hills Terminal. Also that included the cancellation of Saturday summer service.  I said we recognize that HRM has some economic restraint decisions to be made, but not to the point of severely damaging the viability of our local service.

We are expected to have the final report back for debate on Feb.1st/11 unless it gets bounced for some other time sensitive topic.  I will keep you apprized as things develop further. I appreciate your understanding, patience and support during this debate.
