Jerry Blumenthal was first elected in 1994 as   Alderman in Halifax City. In 1995, following amalgamation, he was re-elected to serve as Councillor in District 11 of the Halifax Regional Municipality. He served for 10 years until 2004. After a break for the following term, he was re-elected in 2008. He was Deputy Mayor in 2000-2001 and served a term as President of the Union of Nova Scotia Municipalities in 2001-2002.

Born and raised in Halifax, Jerry has been a lifelong resident.  He received his B.A. and B.Ed. at Dalhousie University. He retired in 1994 after 32 years of teaching and school administration.

Jerry and his wife, Nancy, have four children and ten grandchildren. He and Nancy are both actively involved in the community.
