The final report for the Corridor Study for Highway 107, Highway 102 and Bayers Road that was being done jointly by HRM and the Province will come to Regional Council in September 2010.
In May, Council approved the 2009-10 Budget and Capital Plan to 2014. This Budget and Capital Plan do not contain funding for adding lanes for vehicle traffic on Bayers Road. A study is now being done on the possible development of a bus only lane on Bayers Rd that would facilitate faster movement of buses and therefore encourage bus use. If this project proceeds there may need to be road widening to accommodate a new lane for buses. The results of this study will available in the fall and will require public consultation and council approval before proceeding. HRM has purchased two properties on Bayers Rd between Romans Ave and Coleman Court. HRM is not actively purchasing properties on Bayers Rd but will buy properties when residents approach the municipality to sell their home or when properties become available on the real estate market if the properties are potential candidates for the road widening.
