Regional Council decided not to proceed with further discussion about residential tax reform at this time. I did not support the proposal from the Tax Reform committee based on the inequities that I felt would be created with a move to the proposed new system. Although there are many problems with our current system, there was no guarantee that an equal number of problems and perhaps greater inequity would be created. For more detail about concerns I had with the proposed reform please see Proposed Tax Reform: Opinion Piece Sept 24. There is interest in examining commercial tax reform and this will be furthered discussed by Regional Council in the fall of 2010.
