Public Information Meeting Wednesday, Feb 10, 7:00 pm

at Halifax Hall

On December 14, 2009, Peninsula Community Council passed a motion that "staff open a planning application to consult with the public, address any potential issues (e.g. separation distances, number of hens, prohibition of roosters) and, if appropriate, draft amendments to the Halifax Peninsula Land Use By-law to permit backyard laying hens." At this time, only amendments to the Peninsula LUB are being considered; existing regulations will continue to apply in other communities (e.g. Halifax Mainland, Dartmouth).

A public information meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, February 10, 2010 beginning at 7:00 pm at Halifax Hall, 1841 Argyle Street, Halifax.

Following the public information meeting, the proposal will undergo a detailed review. Staff will prepare a report to be tabled at Peninsula Community Council. If Council decides to consider the Land Use By-law amendments, they will schedule a public hearing. Notice of a public hearing will be published in the newspaper and on the HRM website.
