To be a candidate in either the Municipal Election or Halifax Regional School Board Election you must be:

• A Canadian Citizen
• 18 years of age or older at the time of nomination
• Be ordinarily resident in HRM for at least 6 months prior to nomination day (before March 11, 2012)
• Not otherwise disqualified under the Municipal Elections Act or Education Act of Nova Scotia

Candidate Contributions

• All contributions of $50 or over to a candidates campaigns must be reported on the form provided in the Candidates package
• Following the Election, contribution forms will be posted on the HRM web site
• Contributions made to Municipal or School Board candidates are not tax deductible – no tax receipts are issued
• No anonymous contributions are allowed
