Be Prepared When An
Emergency Strikes
Are you worried about hurricane season, winter storms and all the potential natural and man-made disasters that may affect our community at any time? Most disasters are beyond our control and cannot be prevented. The best way to weather the effects of a major disaster with the least possible damage to your life and property is to BE PREPARED!
1) make a plan
2) build a kit
3) know the hazards in your area
This is where HRM Emergency Management Organization (EMO) can help.
Go to www.getprepared.ca to complete a family emergency plan online and to find a list to build an emergency kit.
The Emergency Management Act (By-law E100) was enacted in 1990 by Municipal Council and led to the creation of the EMO which is made up of an Advisory Committee, a Planning Committee and a Coordinator.
The goals of the EMO are to promote emergency preparedness and coordinate emergency management within the Halifax Regional Municipality.
