Halifax Regional Municipality is inviting applications for the position of Mechanic. Under the direction of the Superintendent of Transit Fleet Services, Transportation and Public Works the Mechanic will be accountable to perform maintenance work on the Transit Fleet. The work location is the Burnside Transit Centre, 200 Ilsley Avenue, Dartmouth.



  • Grade 12 or equivalent education and experience.
  • Must be a licensed Bus and Transport mechanic. (consideration may be given to a registered apprentice)
  • Three (3) years experience in the repair and maintenance of fleet vehicles.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license, with a good driving record. (A current abstract is required before appointment.).
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Good attendance and work record, including punctuality and reliability.
  • Must have own hand tools.
  • Must work holidays that fall on scheduled work days.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Other related duties as assigned.


PLEASE NOTE:  Testing may be conducted as part of the selection process to assess job specific/technical knowledge.  The selection process will also include a thorough review of the applicants attendance, punctuality, reliability, work record and reference checks.

WORK HOURS: 11:30pm to 7:30am Sunday-Thursday (shift starts 11:30pm Saturday night)

WORK LOCATION: Burnside Transit Centre, 200 Ilsley Avenue, Dartmouth.

RATE OF PAY: The hourly rate of pay is $27.47 per hour according to the Collective Agreement between the Amalgamated Transit Union, Local 508 and Halifax Regional Municipality.
