ClimAdapt - HRM is a member of the Nova Scotia Climate Adaptation Network. This is a group of private and public sector agencies collaborating on efforts to develop tools and expertise for adapting to the effects of climate change. See the ClimAdapt website for details.   Eco-Efficiency Centre - The Centre encourages companies to achieve better environmental and economic performance through resource conservation, pollution prevention, reuse, recycling and good environmental practices.  See the Centre Web Page for more information.

  Halifax Urban Greenway - The Halifax Urban Greenway is a concept for an urban walking trail in peninsular Halifax following the Canadian National Railway cut from Chebucto Road to Young Avenue.  See the Greenway Web Site for more information.

Earth Hour 2009

Thanks to everyone who turned out and took action against global climate change. Haligonians joined millions around the world by turning off their lights on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 8:30 pm during Earth Hour. The Halifax Regional Municipality (HRM) is committed to being a healthy, sustainable and vibrant community. Participating in events such as this help demonstrate this commitment.

HRM sustainability initiatives and efforts have paid off as Corporate Knights Magazine ranked the municipality first for medium-sized Canadian cities in 2008. HRM has a number of key Green initiatives focussing on Clean Air, Clean Land, Clean Water and Clean Energy: Alderney 5 Energy Project; Harbour Solutions, Solid Waste Reduction and Recycling, and the Active Transportation Plan - just to name a few.

Mayor Peter Kelly says “ Sustainability is one of the greatest challenges facing every community - we must ensure that our decisions and actions today do not compromise those of future generations”.

By flipping your light switch, you demonstrated concern for our living planet and sent a loud message that you support action on climate change.
