How do I apply to become a volunteer firefighter? |

(1) You can pick up an Intake Package from your local fire station or from our Adminstration office at 3rd Floor, Alderney Gate, 40 Alderney Drive, Dartmouth (490-5530). You will be contacted about your application.
(2) Submit The Application Form With The Following Attachments:
- Driver's Abstract
- Criminal Records Check
- Receipts For Both (For Reimbursement If Accepted As A Member)
- Photocopy Of Driver's License
(3) Interview With Your Local Chief (or Captain) and Human Resources
(4) Medical Assessment (We Will Give You A Form For Your Doctor To Fill Out)

I live in the former City of Halifax or City of Dartmouth and there are no fire stations with volunteers. What choices do I have? |

There may be an opportunity for you to participate at one of the other stations which have both career and volunteer members. Complete the application and return it to the Administration office. |

There are 30 volunteer fire departments in HRM, outside the Metro area. They extend to all the borders of HRM. See our Stations Page. |

What will be expected of me as a volunteer firefighter? |

- On average, 25-35 hours per month of training, emergency responses, meetings
- New recruits undergo approximately 120 hours of training in the first 18 months.
- Firefighters work in stressful and emotional circumstances and conditions.
- In order to be able to respond to calls you must live within a designated volunteer district.
