The Fire Prevention Division has a complex job to do. They have a thorough knowledge of:
- Fire Cause & Behaviour
- Building Codes & Fire Codes
- How Buildings Behave Under Fire Conditions
- How a Building's Features Affect Fire & Smoke Spread & the Safety of the Occupants
There are three major areas of work for the Fire Prevention Division:
- Fire Investigation
- Property Inspection & Ordinance Enforcement

These activities affect each other. For example, the information gathered during the fire investigation often indicates where efforts need to be made in legislation, and in public education.
Other Activities
Other fire prevention programs are carried out by the firefighters in the stations. Some of these programs include the Alarmed & Ready free smoke alarm program, and the Annual Home Safety Inspection program.
