Fleet Services provides a high quality of maintenance support to the department's fleet of vehicles in its location on the Waverley Road.
The 14 bay facility allows for 16 full size trucks to be inside the facility at once for repair and inspection.
The shop employs 4 Technicians, 1 Leadhand, 1 Administration Clerk, 1 Driver, 1 Stores / Buyer, 1 Communication Tech and 1 Superintendent. There are also 3 Field Service Technicians. |

We also have an auxiliary fleet maintenance facility at Station 38 (Middle Musquodoboit).
The Master EVT (Emergency Vehicle Technician) stationed there can perform regular maintenance, MVI's and minor repairs on vehicles from throughout Zone 3 and adjacent zones.
This reduces the traffic through the main facility. As a result Fleet can now perform regular maintenance twice yearly on the department's busiest trucks from downtown Dartmouth and Halifax. Previously that maintenance was done just once a year.
Two new hoists, one 30,000 pound and one 40,000 pound, were purchased which will handle most pumpers and will help get new vehicles into service more quickly. They also get the mechanics up off the floor and allow for better lighting.
Other services include:
- Inspection of all arriving new apparatus to ensure they meet specifications
- Installation or completion of compartments and/or cabinetry on vehicles
- Ensuring all vehicles comply with provincial weight restrictions, NFPA and ULC
- Provide service vehicles to perform some maintenance and repairs in-station or on scene
- Pump testing
- Installation of lighting packages
- Metal fabrication for slide-out trays and mounting brackets for equipment
