Almost $25,000 Raised for Burn Treatment at Bowl-a-Thon
The Nova Scotia Fire Fighters Burn Treatment Society has raised almost $25,000 at its 30th annual bowl-a-thon at the Spryfield Bowlarama.

Firefighter Krista Eisan of the Sackville volunteers gets set to bowl a string.
The Society has raised more than $1.5 million over the years from the bowl-a-thon as well as other events. The money is used to assist burn units at the QE11 and the IWK, to help with expenses and needs of burn survivors and their families, for education programs related to burn prevention, and to help finance Camp Connect, the Society’s summer camp for adult and child burn victims.

Clayton Horne and retired firefighter Doug Castel operate the barbecue for the event. Horne is an up and coming member, so to speak. He’s on our department’s hiring list.

Firefighter Steve Skinner of the Sackville volunteer team keeps score. Beside him is Melissa Stronge of the Amherst team. Her husband is on the Amherst Fire Department

Capt. Jim Benoit (left) and fire fighter Blaise Mattie (right) pose with retired member Graham Feindel who has helped out with the bow-a-thon for years. Jim and Blaise are both members of the Nova Scotia Firefighters Burn Treatment Society.

HANDING IT IN – Firefighter Bob Ruggles of Station 38 (Middle Musquodoboit) hands in the almost $3,200 he raised for the charity, the most of any individual bowler. Bob has participated in almost every bowl-a-thon since its inception and has had the distinction of raising the most money many times over the years.

Firefighters (from left) Brin Jones, David Steele, Garrett Grosvenor and Lt. Robert Andrews represented Station 8 (Bedford) volunteers at the event
