Crosswalk Safety Awareness Day was created to help educate drivers, cyclists and pedestrians to be cautious, and avoid distractions when approaching or using a crosswalk. This is our second annual event.
On November 4, 2015, community members including police, councillors and residents will volunteer their time to show their support and create crosswalk safety awareness. Volunteers will share information with residents and hand out promotional giveaways including high-visibility gloves, tuques, stickers, reflective armbands, temporary tattoos, and handouts with crosswalk safety facts.
Volunteers will be dispersed throughout the municipality at high-traffic crosswalks and intersections on November 4, 2015, during the morning commute from 8:30-9:30 a.m. We are currently seeking Crosswalk Captains to help recruit and coordinate volunteers who will create safety awareness at more crosswalks throughout the municipality than in 2014. See all the crosswalk locations for the 2015 event below.
The Crosswalk Captains and teams will also be hosting a crosswalk safety celebration in City Hall’s Grand Parade from 12 – 1 p.m. on November 4 that will feature complimentary drinks and snacks, entertainment, Rachel Ettinger from 101.3 The Bounce, crosswalk safety demonstrations and prize draws.
