JOB DESCRIPTION

Position/Title: Citizens on Patrol Volunteer
Halifax Regional Police
Purpose: To reduce crime in HRM by patrolling and reporting observed
criminal activity in areas under HRP jurisdiction

Activities/

Responsibilities:

• Attend all training sessions as required
• Patrol community using own vehicle
• Make observations and take notes on activities in the community
• Contact HRP when questionable conduct is noticed
• Respond to divisional complaints through directed patrol
• Appear in court to give evidence if necessary
• Attend special events or information sessions
• Attend meetings as scheduled
• Complete all reports and logs as required
Time Frame • Oneyear commitment
• Four hours per week
Site/Location • Based out of divisional Community Response Officers office
Qualifications: • Interest in working toward a safe community
• Mature, responsible, reliable, honest
• Successful through all HRP security clearances
• Flexible, team player
• Possess a valid Nova Scotia Driver’s Licence
• 19 years of age or older
• Hold valid auto insurance and registration as per provincial
requirements
Measures: • Increase public awareness of HRP mandate
• Recorded numbers of incidents reported
• Numbers of shifts logged
• Numbers of special events attended
