Purchasing your own vehicle

You can buy a used or new vehicle. The Nova Scotia Automobile Dealers Association is a good place to start your search. See www.nsada.ca.

Once you have bought your car, you must purchase both a vehicle permit, which will get you license plates, and a vehicle certificate registration, which proves ownership. This can be done through your dealership (at an additional cost to you), or you can go to the Registry of Motor Vehicles to get both documents yourself.

For more information on registering your vehicle, getting a driver’s license, or taking a driver’s test, please contact the Registry of Motor Vehicles toll-free within Nova Scotia at 1-800-898-7688 or 424-5851 within HRM or visit their website.
