Definitions

Auxiliary Water Supply

Any water source or system other than the potable water supply that may be available in a building or on any premises.

 

Backflow Prevention Device

A Backflow Prevention Device is an assembly, which prohibits the backflow of water into the potable water supply.

 

Contamination

An impairment of the potable water supply by the introduction or admission of any foreign substance which degrades the quality and creates a hazard.

 

Cross Connection Control Program

A program initiated by a regulatory authority to administer and regulate the selection, installation, testing, and maintenance of Backflow Prevention Devices.

 

Hazard

A danger or potential danger to health, due to contaminants entering the potable water system via uncontrolled cross connections, which can range in severity from mildly toxic to lethal.

 

Pollution

The presence of any foreign substance in water that tends to degrade it’s quality so as to constitute a hazard or impair the usefulness of water.

 

Potable Water

Any water that, according to recognized standards, is safe for human consumption.

 

Potable Water Supply/System

A water system (including but not limited to supply, treatment, transmission and distribution facilities and appurtenances) operated as a Public Utility that supplies potable water to the service connection of the Consumer's water system.
