The Cross Connection Control Program is a key component of Halifax Water's Multi-Barrier Approach to the protection of the public water supply. Halifax Water has authority, through regulations as approved by the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board, to require the installation of Backflow Prevention Devices (BFP) on water service lines to all industrial, commercial, institutional properties and multi-unit residential buildings (greater than four units). The BFP devices are installed to minimize the risk of potential contaminants entering the public distribution system from the customer's premises through backflow.
