Halifax Water will assist in determining if your property is within the current municipal service district boundaries using your civic address information or your PID#. Halifax Water will advise whether there is water and wastewater services along the front of your property. If no water or wastewater services exist or if a connection is not possible, Halifax Water staff can advise you on the status of any planned water system extensions in your area.
If water and wastewater mains exist and connection is possible you must apply to HRM for a building permit.
Once the services have been approved, they must be inspected and approved by Halifax Water Operations Department before a meter can be installed. A fee of $90 is charged for this inspection.
Please refer to Halifax Water's;
Requirements and Regulations for Water Service and Meter Installations
for additional information and to ensure these requirements are met.
Once the service is inspected and approved, you may contact Halifax Water Customer Service Department at 490-4820 (Monday thru Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.) to arrange for an appointment to install the water meter and to set up an account. There is a $25 account creation fee which will appear on your first water invoice.
