Halifax Water is regulated by the Nova Scotia Utility and Review Board (NSUARB), and the following rates have been approved by the NSUARB. These rates were effective April 1, 2008. For your information we have set out below, by meter size, the details of these rates. For more information on water service charges, phone (902) 490-4820.

These charges are for water service only.
Pollution Control
These rates are based on water consumption. These charges appear on the water bill.
Effective October 1, 2007, the rates are:

Bulk Fill Stations
Water obtained through bulk fill stations - $1.83 per m3. Effective, December 1, 2006, water obtained through the Middle Musquodoboit bulk fill station - $2.00 per m3. Vehicles used for transporting water must obtain a permit, be inspected and approved by Halifax Water on an annual basis.
Late Payment
Interest on overdue accounts is calculated at 1.5% per month or part thereof (19.56% per annum).
Rates for Building Fire Protection System
Each building having a fire protection system installed shall pay annually for the service as follows:

Charges for Re-establishing Water Service
When water service has been suspended for any violation of the Rules and Regulations of Halifax Water, such water service shall not be re-established until a reconnection charge of $30.00 has been paid.
Resumption of Service and Connection Fee
Haliax Water shall charge a $25.00 fee for the creation of a water account or the installation of a water meter, notwithstanding the fact that no physical disconnection of the system may have occurred.
This fee shall be $200.00 when a meter is installed, or water turned on, after normal working hours of the utility.
Charge for Non-negotiable Cheques
Halifax Water shall charge a $20.00 fee plus bank charges for the following:
- Cheques that due to non-negotiability have been charged back by Halifax Water;
- Payment through a pre-authorized payment plan has been reversed or dishonoured by the bank/financial institution.
Charge for Use of Investigator/Collector
Halifax Water may charge a $15.00 fee for each visit by the Investigator/Collector to a customer whose payment is overdue, if in the judgement of Halifax Water, it is warranted.
Charge for Missed Appointment by Customer
Where an appointment has been made by a customer to have water service hooked up or a meter installed, or water turned on to a property, or other visits to the property for the inception or maintenance of water service to the property and the customer fails to keep the appointment or the plumbing is not completed to allow for installation of a water meter and Halifax Water staff have to return to the property; there shall be a charge of $40.00 for each visit, if in the judgement of Halifax Water it is required.
Charge for Theft of Service
Halifax Water may charge a penalty in addition to applicable water charges for each illegal water connection if in the judgement of Halifax Water it is warranted. The charges are as follows:

Charge for Large Customer Monitoring
Halifax Water may enter into an arrangement with customers who are large water users and have private distribution systems to monitor the metered flow to the customer and report abnormal water usage to the customer. The cost of providing this service will be billed to the customer at the rate of $104.00 per month, per meter, and usage by the customer will be voluntary.
Charge for Water Bill Retrievals/Copies
Halifax Water may charge, at its discretion, a fee of $7.50 per bill copy for water bill retrievals/copies issued outside the regular billing cycle.
HST will be added where applicable.
