Halifax Water is inviting applications for one (1) Summer Watershed Student. This employment opportunity is available during the summer months for approximately 18 weeks (May to August 2012).
Job Duties: The successful candidate can expect to be involved in field projects throughout the Halifax Water’s Watershed properties. The successful candidate must have a keen interest in, and knowledge of, operational forestry, specifically:
Note: This job requires the individual to patrol and cruise watershed and associated lands regularly. This requires the capability to walk extensively in varying weather conditions, through and on rough, uneven and hilly terrain.
Qualifications: This opportunity is open to students currently enrolled in a post secondary degree or diploma in Forestry, a Forest Technician program or a related natural resources program and must be returning back to school in the fall 2012. The successful candidate must have:

A valid Driver’s License, Satisfactory Driver’s Abstract and access to a reliable vehicle

A satisfactory background check

Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Word, Excel, GPS and GIS

Good field navigation skills
It would be an asset for the successful candidate to have:
Salary: As per the CUPE local 1431 Collective Agreement, current rate is $16.76/hr.
