No New Developments in Park Infestation
(Monday, May 29/2000)-- Halifax Regional Municipality has received a number of calls from media outlets today
regarding any new developments in the status of the Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle infestation of Point Pleasant Park.
Following the Technical Briefing to reporters at Halifax Hall, City Hall, last Thursday, May 25/2000, two issues remained
outstanding:
A) a decision on whether the Canadian Food Inspection Service would impose a quarantine on the Park as a result of the
infestation.
B) details on the release and distribution of a public information pamphlet or poster to inform citizens about what the
Brown Spruce Longhorn Beetle looks like; its habits; symptoms of infestation, etc.
Although conversations have been held with various federal officials this morning, HRM has NOT been officially notified
of any decision re: the above as of 2 p.m. ADST today.
Should there be any new developments later today, HRM shall advise the media.
Thanking you in advance for your cooperation.
