Deadline Extended Due to Data Delays
(Friday, September 1/2000)-- Maurice Lloyd, Project Manager for the Harbour Solutions Project, said today that the due
date for responses to a Request for Proposals (RFP) for the project has been extended to September 29th, 2000. The
previous date included in the RFP was September 19th, 2000.
The Halifax Regional Council Harbour Solutions Advisory Committee has agreed to the extension.
Mr. Lloyd said the deadline was extended because there was a delay in making available certain data, including geo-technical information, to the two private sector consortia bidding on the project. This data was to be available by August
18, 2000, and will now be completed September 1, 2000.
Mr. Lloyd said geo-technical information was unavailable at that time because there was difficulty in obtaining data off of
Herring Cove because of high seas. There was also an unexpected delay in completing the work for the land area between
Sackville Street and the former VIA rail Maintenance Building in Halifax's south end.
The two private sector proponents bidding on the project are the Halifax Regional Environmental Partnership and the
Halifax Waterworks Group. The Aquafax Group recently withdrew from the process because one of its major equity
partners decided not to participate in the consortia.
