Public Service Announcement Bike to Work Week to be Held June 4-8
(Thursday, May 31/2001)--- It's that time a year again to dust off the old two-wheeler and take off some of that winter
weight (pounds.)
"Bike to Work Week" will be celebrated from June 4-8 in the Halifax Regional Municipality this year. It's an annual event
to promote the benefits of cycling, while at the same time raising local awareness among individuals and businesses about
the benefits of cycling, how it contributes to a clean environment and the need for both motorists and cyclists to observe all
road safety rules.
The public is invited to particpate and HRM is actively promoting participation in Bike to Work Week among its
employees. It has posted information about it and how to register on its website www.halifax.ca
Participants will be asked to commit to cycling to work from one to five days during the week of June 4th to the 8th. During
this week, there will be several events taking place, including a bike ride across the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge to Halifax
City Hall on Wednesday, June 6th. (Participants are asked to meet at the Dartmouth side toll plaza. at 11:15.) Refreshments
to follow the ride at City Hall.
Also, there will be free access to the HRM Ferry Service if you are riding a bike during Bike to Work Week.
