HRM Board of Police Commissioners Offer Reward in MacCullough Case
(Monday, June 4/2001)-- Halifax Regional Municipality and its Board of Police Commissioners are offering $25,000 for
information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible for the murder of 19-year-old Jason
MacCullough.
The announcement was made today by Mayor Peter Kelly and David Bryson, QC, Chair of the Board of Police
Commissioners, at a news conference at City Hall.
The reward will be offered from today until July 4th. Halifax Regional Police will determine if the HRM Board of Police
Commissioners will award the reward money.
On Saturday, August 28th, 1999, at around 1:27 a.m., Jason MacCullough was walking home through Pinehill Park in
Dartmouth after visiting friends. As Jason proceeded through the park, he was approached and fatally shot.
Police are confident there are people who have information regarding the murder.
A group called "Concerned Citizens for Justice" offered a reward for information regarding the MacCullough murder in
September of 1999. At that time, no solid leads were provided.
(This is the second reward HRM and the Board have offered in recent months in an effort to bring perpetrators of murder
within the HRM to justice. A similar reward was offered in February for information leading to the arrest and conviction
of the person(s) responsible for the death of Tyrone Layton Oliver, of Halifax. This case is still under investigation.)
Anyone with information regarding the MacCullough case is asked to contact Halifax Regional Police Major Crime Unit at
490-5333 or after hours 490-5221.
