(Wednesday, September 19,2001)-- Mayor Peter Kelly announced today that Halifax Regional Council has unanimously approved the appointment of George McLellan as Acting Chief Administrative Officer, effective immediately.

Deputy Mayor Jerry Blumenthal, seconded by Councillor Brad Johns, moved a motion to accept a recommendation from the CAO Review Committee to appoint Mr. McLellan, following the resignation yesterday of former CAO Ken Meech.

Mr. McLellan, a native of Sydney, was Acting CAO for the former Municipality of the County of Halifax at the time of amalgamation and was later appointed Commissioner of Regional Operations in the new administration.

He and Dan English, former CAO of the Town of Bedford and Commissioner of Community Services in the newly amalgamated municipality, were both named Deputy CAOs for Halifax Regional Municiaplity in early 1998.

Mr. English, who supported the appointment of Mr. McLellan to the Acting position, will continue as Deputy CAO.
