Gottingen Street "Open Market" To Be held on Sundays
(Thursday, July 4, 2002)-- Gottingen Street's first "Open Market" held last Sunday (June 30th) was such a huge success
that it will be repeated every Sunday until the end of Summer, Councillor Dawn Sloane and organizers said today.
Both local and visiting vendors were overwhelmed by the support shown by the HRM community. Approximately 2,000
people attended the event, enjoying food, music and taking advantage of the shopping opportunities.
The Open Market was so well received both by the community and the vendors that the Central Halifax Business
Association has decided it will be held every Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for the remainder of the Summer season.
Councillor Sloane said "This was one of the most positive actions that has happened recently on Gottingen Street for the
residents and the merchants. The "Goat and Chicken Festival" slated for the Sunday of the Natal Day weekend is also
another wonderful event for HRM residents and tourists alike will be able to attend."
Michelle Strum, one of the organizers, said " We look forward to seeing the "Open Market" become a tradition for
Haligonians and people from throughout the HRM.".
