Fire Service, Investigators Again Called to Scene of Restaurant Explosions

(Friday, January 10/2003)-- Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Service responded to a call at 8:53 p.m. of an explosion at the McDonald's Restaurant, on the Bedford Highway.

Shortly after firefighters arrived on the scene, three or four other minor explosions occurred in various areas of the restaurant. Halifax Regional Fire and provincial gas inspectors, as well as officials of the company that provides gas to the McDonald's outlet, were then called in to investigate the cause of the explosions. Inspectors left the scene at approximately 2 a.m. The building was then turned over to the security company.

At 6:00 a.m this morning, the security company called 9-1-1 and Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency Service responded to the call and are still on the scene. There will be an ongoing investigation by the inspectors and gas company officials.
