Councillor to Pay for Flagpersons at Site of Traffic Delay
(Friday, May 2/2003)-- Construction is expected to start Monday on repairs to the Nine Mile Brook bridge on Highway #3
at Timberlea, near the entrance to the Greenwood Heights subdivision.
Traffic has been reduced to one-lane on the bridge since April 12th, as the result of a partial washout of the portion on the
highway at Nine Mile Brook, which caused structural damage to the bridge.
District 22 Councillor Reg Rankin (Hammonds Plains-Timberlea) said he expects construction work on the bridge to be
completed within two weeks. However, there have been concerns by motorists that the temporary traffic light sequence at
the bridge is severely slowly the flow of local traffic.
To combat the problem Councilor Rankin said he is contributing money from his District fund to hire traffic flagpersons to
be on duty at the bridge during the morning and evening travel times.
"Hopefully, this will speed up traffic at the bridge and eliminate some of the delays residents travelling to and from work
have been experiencing at that location," he said.
